Raising the Bar: Kingston Health Sciences Centre-Kingston General Hospital Site received its Third Accreditation Canada Stroke Distinction Award

KHSC achieved its third Stroke Distinction award!  The 2018 Accreditation Canada Report  highlighted many strengths. There were more standards to meet this time round and the results were positive.   KHSC sustained achievement of performance indicator targets despite growing patient volumes. A greater number of criteria were achieved for patient and family education and each of the 14 protocols were demonstrated, an increase from last survey. KHSC received extremely positive feedback on implementing 24/7 access to Endovascular Thrombectomy across the region. The Accreditation overview reaffirmed the KHSC self-assessment, highlighting the need for greater allied health coverage on weekends, a change that is already being addressed.  Another identified need included continued collaborative work with partners to improve flow to rehabilitation. Patients and families across KHSC indicated feeling very satisfied with the care, citing the “exemplary work of team members.” Dr. Jin, Stroke Neurologist and Medical Director for the Stroke Network of Southeastern Ontario eloquently summed up this latest achievement, “Our team has worked hard over the past several years to deliver the highest quality of service to our community. This award reflects the continuing efforts and commitment to our patients from everyone involved in stroke care at KHSC.” Congratulations to each and every one of you across the region who contributed to this Award!
