Kayla Purdon, RN, BScN, BA, MN will begin working with the Stroke Network on Oct 20th as our Regional Stroke Community and LTC Coordinator. Kayla has a Masters of Nursing (Teaching Focus) from Athabasca, Alberta that included courses in Evidence-based Practice, Dissemination Strategies, Collaboration and Leadership roles in Health. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of Ottawa in 2010 and a Bachelor of Arts in Health Studies with a minor in psychology from Queen’s University in 2008. Kayla has most recently worked as a Clinical Learning Specialist in the Mental Health and Additions Program at KHSC. She has also recently worked as a Public Health Nurse and brings experience with the Intensive Transitional Treatment Program at KHSC. Kayla worked for several years with the Queen’s Family Health Team as a Health Link Coordinator, supporting patients in the community to meet their goals and to navigate the healthcare system. Kayla worked for four years in the neuroscience program at KHSC including a rotation as the Stroke Resource Nurse on the Stroke Unit. She also brings experience working in internal medicine at KHSC as well as early work as a Nurse’s Aide in a Long Term Care Home in Almonte. Kayla adds that her work helping on the family farm in Balderson Ontario assisted her to develop values such as hard work and dedication. She knows a lot about the rural nature of our region. Kayla’s varied experience will be an amazing fit for this regional role with the Stroke Network where her skills in knowledge translation, neurosciences, mental health, community and LTC will all come together to support our continued work in community reintegration for stroke survivors and their families.
