On June 10, 2026, Kingston hosted the 2026 Stroke Symposium - a landmark event for our network that brought together healthcare professionals and advocates from across the region and the entire continuum of care. Demand was exceptionally high this year; to accommodate interest, we expanded capacity and welcomed a record-breaking 187 attendees.
Program Highlights:
- Keynotes: Insightful presentations by Dr. Shirin Jalini on collaborative care for intracerebral hemorrhage, and Ada Tang, PhD, on exercise, inclusion, and evolving best practices.
- Regional highlights: Showcasing amazing stroke care happening right here in Southeastern Ontario
- Breakouts: Interactive afternoon sessions covering art-based therapy, practical support for post-stroke depression, client teaching, anti-depressants in neurological recovery, and prevention strategies.
- Closing Debate: A spirited discussion between Dr. Robert Sarmiento and Dr. Andrew Samis exploring artificial intelligence in hyperacute stroke care.
Participant feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees calling it a "really great conference" and the "best stroke symposium I have ever attended."
